This LP was Tim's third and final album as a solo artist. Like Fearless before it this record combined a mixture of covers and original material written and composed by Tim and his band. Tim was working on Simplicity during a particularly busy period of his career which is summed up in the song 'On A Roll' where we hear the lyrics 'if you stop to think you'll fall, gotta go, gotta do, that's all'. Tim was working on the movie Annie in the mornings, recording Simplicity in the afternoons and performing on Broadway as Mozart in Peter Shaffer's Amadeus by night. He was also filming the movie Times Square around all of this. The mixture of songs on this album remain eclectic but there are several emotional ballads, including the title song Simplicity written by Tim himself, that really show off his vocal ability.

The songs 'Working On My Tan', 'Simplicity' and 'Out Of Pawn' were all re-released in 1989 as part of the Best Of Tim Curry CD.
